The son of Mr James and Mrs Helen Margaret Murray Dodds (nee McIntyre). He was brought up at the family home at 10 West Clyde Street, Helensburgh.
Siblings: Jimmy, Bill, Jackie, Davie, Peggy, Mary and Helen.
