He is remembered with honour on the Scottish National War Memorial, West United Free Church Roll of Honour, Larchfield School Memorial, Helensburgh and Gareloch Unionist Association Roll of Honour and the Helensburgh War Memorial, Column 2 Line 52.

The family home was at Rosebank, 150, West Princes Street, Helensburgh. The son of William Hamilton Campbell Kidston and Celia Brownlie Kidston (nee Little)
The inscription on his headstone reads; 'Of soul sincere in action faithful and in honour clear'
Siblings: William had one brother, Malcolm and two sisters, Anne and Cecilia.

William Kidston was born at Easterton, Helensburgh where his father was chairman of A.G. Kidston, iron and steel merchant. He was educated at Miss Johnston's School, Larchfield School and the Leys School in Cambridge.
He entered his father's office in 1899, eventually became a partner and was working in the London Branch at the outbreak of war.
William was in his 38th year and unmarried when he died in the military hospital in Le Touguet from wounds received in battle.
